White Butte drift management

On Saturday February 6th, 21 RSC volunteers came out to White Butte Trails with shovels to help with drift management after the storm Jan 23-25th which involved 40 cms of snow & 70 km winds & left drifts 1-2 meters high in 4 places the machinery couldn't handle. The good news is that the snow fencing installed last fall really works. In an hour, 4 major snow drifts (Marsh, West Butte & Snowberry trails) were demolished, bringing the entire trail system back into skiable condition. This is just in time for the Regina Loppet, Sask XC Provincials & Sask Biathlon Provincials scheduled for later this month. Thanks to the following people for their time & efforts: Brian Wagner, Brian Torgunrud, Bruce McKee, Velda Back, Lorna McPherson, Bradley Kerr, Donna Pasiechnik, Dean Guthiel, Barry Mang, Sharon & Brian Hoiland,Mary Saso, Doug Price, Fred Cameron, Steve Wihak, Jim Fletcher, Peter Whitehead, Murray Steffenson, Dave & Edna & Gregg Brewster. A special thanks to Ron Blechinger & the Kinsmen RSC group for loaning their snowmobile & drag to supplement our old Alpine, since both our new machines (SWT & UTV) are broken down & in for repairs.

White Butte Trail Report

Well, another year of skiing is done at White Butte. There is now water flowing over the trails on Aspen and East Butte, so you can't even "skate" around the bare spots anymore. Thanks to all of the skiers, volunteers and contributors for their support and assistance this past winter. Another successful year. See you in December.

We will again use the "White Butte zipper pulls" in the form of a rubber snow flake as trail tags for donations of $20 or more (see donor page for details). People listed on the "Donor Page" of this website can pick-up their trail tags at FAE. These are intended to recognize our supporters & promote high quality trail maintenance.

Our objective is to provide high quality trails by frequent grooming as snow conditions,ski traffic & budget warrant. IF YOU WISH TO MAKE A TRAIL DONATION, MAKE USE OF THE TRAILHEAD CASH BOX WHICH IS EMPTIED REGULARLY, DROP IT OFF AT FAE OR MAIL A CHEQUE TO THE REGINA SKI CLUB.
